Two photographers presented this week’s Program. Daryl Chang is a sports photographer and David Salzberg is a food photographer. Daryl stared taking pictures when his kids were in school. As he became more interested, he obtained better equipment and turned his hobby into a business, L & H photos. He works with Max Preps, which takes sport photos for every high school in the United States. He takes sports portraits for high schools in the area. He also does action shots of high school and collage sports for the media. There are many tricks to taking action shots. Using the correct depth of field, the correct shutter speed, the position of the sun, and getting into the best position for the picture you are seeking.
David, the food photographer, takes pictures for food companies, growers, restaurants and breweries. He gets his clients by attending food shows and talking to prospective customers. Lighting and the proper subjects are important factors in food photography. David said he has taken 8 hours to photograph a taco picture. There is a great deal of technique required to get the best shot.
We learned that the pictures we see in media and in advertisements are much more complicated than we imagined. Thanks to Daryl and David for enlightening us about the complexities of their trade.
