The Rotary Foundation was today’s topic for program.  The Speaker was Mark Mariscal, a member of the Rotary Club of Altadena, CA.  Mark is also the District 5300 Rotary Foundation Chair for this year.  Mark was previously a member of the LA 5 Club before retiring and joining the Altadena Club.  Mark worked for the City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation for 35 years.

He gave us an update on the Rotary International Foundation, reminding us that the Foundation provides funding for Polio Plus, Global Grants, among other worthwhile projects. An example of what Foundation grants can do, is ROTOPLAST  providing funding for surgeries in India.  As he explained the RI Foundation is you and me giving in various ways to support the Foundation’s giving.

There are various ways to donate to the Foundation.  Paul Harris donations are always appreciated.  Donations can be made going of the Rotary Website.  You can also give to your club’s foundation.

The RI Foundation gives back 50% of what Rotary Clubs contribute.  Arcadia Rotary has received in return $17,000 due to its contributions.  Districts receive back 47.5% from the Foundation.  District 5300 received $9500 this last year from the Foundation.  Arcadia Rotary is scheduled to receive $2600 in grant money from the District for a project.  Other interesting facts:  the Foundation gives $150 million annually to Polio Plus.  Districts have received disaster funds in the amount of $25,000. Arcadia Rotary has had over 400 Paul Harris Fellows in its history.  Our club has raised $889,000 for the Foundation.

The District is going to be recognizing those who have contributed the most in the last 25 years.
