The theme of Friday’s recognitions was the Lunar New Year and the incoming Year of the Rat.  Substitute Finemaster Ken Chan quizzed Arcadia Rotarians on the characteristics of those born under this sign.

  • Brian Hall – Is a Rat wealthy? Brian didn’t see how he would know how wealthy a Rat was.  The answer was “yes” and Brian fined $20.  That included recognition for the short video he had made wishing “Kong Hee Fatt Choy” to all.
  • Pat Dolphin – Is a Rat intelligent? Pat correctly guessed “yes” for only a $10 fine.
  • Mike Real – Is a Rat a problem-solver? Mike was fined $20 for missing the correct “yes” answer.
  • Jim Pontello – Is a Rat creative? Also with a wrong guess, Jim was fined $20.
  • Sho Tay – Is a Rat fertile? Finally a correct “yes” answer from Sho, but he had the bad luck to still be fined for $20.

The next group were asked to name famous people born in the Year of the Rat.  None of the three got the answer correct and each was fined $20.

  • Tom Miles – Which US President was a Rat? Answer: John Kennedy.
  • Dave Freeman – Which famous British Rat was born in 1564? Answer: William Shakespeare
  • Ernie Jensen – Who is the Rat in current British royal family? Answer: Prince Harry

Bob Hoffman incorrectly guessed that the Rat was ranked #10 out of the 12 zodiac signs.  He earned a fine of $20 and learned that the Rat is #1!

Teri Muse’s husband David was born in the Year of the Rat.  In exchange for her recognition of $50, she listed his good Rat qualities:  He is fertile, creative, and definitely a problem-solver.

Lastly, and un-Rat-related, the Oregon Ducks’ win over USC earned Eric Barter a fine of $80, $10 for each friend at his house to watch his team’s victory.
