Norma Quiñones, Executive Director of the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps, shared the outstanding work of her organization to provide youth, 18-25, with job training and support services, and a chance to earn a high school diploma.

The SGV Conservation Corps (SGVCC) serves 300 youth a year at 4 facilities in El Monte and Pomona; at the Earthworks Farm, a 4.9-acre organic vegetable farm that provides training for SGVCC participants as well as those of other organizations; and through the Youth-Build Charter School.

SGVCC paid job programs partner with area non-profits and agencies, including the National Forest Service and the Arboretum, to provide certifications in job skills such as CPR, Basic Tool Training, and OSHA safety. Projects have included Malibu fire clean-up, brush clearance, campsite construction, and habitat restoration.   These programs have enabled many under-served youth to finish their educations and establish a career path.

We thank SGVCC for its important contributions,  and Norma Quiñones for a wonderful presentation.
