Michael Driebe, President of Methodist Hospital Foundation

Methodist Hospital began in 1903 when a gift from the Women’s Home Missionary Society established a new hospital in downtown Los Angeles. Then, in the 1950s, a group of civic-minded volunteers came together to ask their friends and neighbors for funds to bring Methodist Hospital to Arcadia. Methodist Hospital, an important anchor for our community, is about to undergo a significant transformation.

Our speaker, Michael Driebe, President of the Methodist Hospital Foundation since 2009, explained the reasons behind the Hospital’s new affiliation with Keck USC. Many independent non-profit hospitals, like Methodist, are facing increasing fiscal challenges in securing competitive reimbursement rates from insurance companies, as well as managing costs.   Affiliation with Keck USC will help address these challenges, while allowing Methodist to remain a full-service community hospital, to continually improve care, and attract the best doctors and other staff.

Although the hospital will have a new name—USC Arcadia Hospital—the current governance structure and hospital foundation will remain, as will the commitment to serving Arcadia and surrounding communities. We thank Mike for an informative presentation on this important transition for Methodist Hospital.
