Gil Stromsoe introduced the program about The Arcadia Rotary Foundation.  As one of the founding board members, Gil was part of the initial discussions and creation of our club’s Foundation in 1984-1986.  He currently serves as the Foundation’s Treasurer.  Mike Real, who serves on the Foundation board as a Director, presented a summary of the Foundation’s activities and funds.  As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, contributions to The Arcadia Rotary Foundation are tax deductible as charitable contributions.  The Foundation board meets quarterly and consists of Frank Hall – President, Gil Stromsoe – Secretary, Yvonne Flint – Treasurer, Directors – Mike Real, John Murphy, Frank Griffith.  The Foundation has five funds restricted for specific purposes by the donors.  The Paul Johenk Fund was named for a former member and long-time chaplain at Arcadia Methodist Hospital; the funds are restricted for use in the City of Arcadia.  The McBane Fund was created by a former member and physician, Ted McBane.  These funds are restricted for use for medical services in Mexico and for needy students.  The Walter Fund is an endowment fund the earnings of which are used for two scholarships to high school seniors in Arcadia each year.  The Arcadia Thrift and Welfare Fund and Veterans’ Memorial Fund are the two remaining restricted funds.  Any Arcadia Rotarian who donates cumulative $500 to the Paul Johenk Fund receives recognition as a Paul Johenk Fellow.  New Paul Johenk Fellows were awarded certificates:  Dirk Hudson, Dave McMonigle, Jack McRae, Frank Griffith, Ben Goland, Mike Hoey, John Murphy, Tony Parrille, Gil Stromsoe, Bob Novell, Gerard Tamparong, Bob Harbicht, Mahlon Chinn, Tim Vickery, Eric Barter, and Bill Gleason.  The Foundation board has established a new recognition program for those who contribute cumulative $500 to the Foundation’s unrestricted funds.  The new program is named the Hudson Proctor Fellow, named for the first president of the Arcadia Rotary Club.  Hudson Proctor Fellow certificates were presented to:  Bill Gleason, Mahlon Chinn, Eric Barter, Rich Hutton, Dick Martinez, John Murphy, Tim Vickery, and Paul Kalemkiarian.
