Our evening meeting at Holly Avenue School kicked off at 5:30 p.m. with an outdoor dinner provided by Baja Mar Taco Restaurant. At 7:00 p.m. all took their seats and Past Rotary President Brad Miller led us in the salute to our flag. First up was our music contestant Michelle Zhao playing the trumpet. Michelle is a senior at AHS. Next was AJ Ocampo, also a senior, who played percussion and chose the snare. The third contestant, a clarinet player did not appear that evening. The judges, Dave Freeman, Tom Crosby, and Pat Dolphin, adjourned to the rear of the auditorium.

The Rotary Four Way Speech Contest immediately followed with four contestants from AHS, a freshman, two juniors and a senior. While the first contestant chose to use the microphone, the others declined. Ken Mallory, our official timer gave a clean slate to all contestants, no one went past the time frame. The judges, Bob Harbicht, Brian Hall, Frank Griffith, adjourned to discuss their findings.

The results were provided for the Dan Stover Music Contest: 1st Place was awarded to :AJ Ocampo – Percussion. 2nd Place was awarded to Michelle Zhao – Trumpet.

The results were provided for the Rotary Four Way Speech Contest: 1st Place, $100 to Karen Thai. 2nd Place, $50.00 to Celine Lee. Kaitlyn Beblawi and Stephanie Shen received participant awards $25 ea. and all received plaques.

Teacher and Student Mini Grants were awarded as follows: Student Mini Grants First Year; 10 applications, 7 were funded totaling $1,810.00. Teacher Mini Grants, 26 received, 20 funded totaling $3,976.30
