Arcadia Rotary’s Day at the Races will be next Friday 03/04/2016 at the Frontrunner Cafe at Santa Anita Race Track. The cost is $35/person, which includes Club House admission, lunch from a select menu, parking, racing program, tax and service charge. Please note that the club will be dark at the Embassy Suites that day.
The Arcadia Rotary Club’s Field of Honor will be held from 05/21/2016 to 05/29/2016 at Arcadia County Park at the corner of Santa Anita and Huntington Drive. This will be in conjunction with Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich’s 19th annual Salute to Veterans. 1,000 American flags will stand in formation paying tribute to veterans, loved ones and other special people who have touched the lives of individual flag sponsors. The concept for the Field of Honor was implemented by volunteers in response to the 9/11 attacks. Individual flags are $50, and each flag sponsor can write a message on a card that will be affixed to the flag and the sponsor will receive the flag at the end of the display. Each club member is encouraged to pick up several pamphlets and encourage friends to participate in this great project.
Mike Real announced that the club will be interviewing juniors at Arcadia High School next week to select the team to attend the RYLA conference held in April 2016. Mike needs volunteers to help him with the interviews. If you are interested contact Mike for more details.
The club’s next social will be dinner that you will cook yourself at Sautee Culinary Academy in Monrovia on 05/07/2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You will learn how to cook Mediterranean food. The cost is $60/person. There will be sign up sheets at the meetings. You’d better sign up fast as there are only 24 spots available .
We are sad to announce the death of Beverly Margett, the wife of member Senator Bob Margett, who died on 02/18/2016. Services are being planned for next month at Immaculate Conception Church in Monrovia.
Put on your calendar that the installation of Rosie Mares as Arcadia Rotary President for 2016-2017 will be held on FRIDAY 06/24/2016 at Monrovia’s Double Tree Hotel.
Congratulations to member Karen MacNair who is the new CEO of Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, effective 02/29/2016. Before that she was Executive Director of the Santa Anita Family YMCA in Monrovia.
