1.  The club will be dark at the Embassy Suites on Friday 02/24/2017 and  the meeting will be a dinner meeting at 5;30 p.m. at Holly Avenue Elementary School (located at the corner of Duarte Road and Holly Avenue across from Good Shepherd Methodist Church).  At that meeting there will be the Dan Stover Music Competition and the 4-Way Speech Contest.   Ken  Chan,  Director of Vocational Service, will also present the recipients of the Teacher Mini-Grants and Student Mini Grants.
  2. On 03/08/2017 our club will distribute wheelchairs to needy persons in Tijuana, Mexico.
  3.  The annual Arcadia Rotary Day at the Races will be held at Santa Anita Racetrack on Friday 03/24/2017 (changed from 03/03/2017).  We will be dark at the Embassy Suites on that date.  The gates at the racetrack  open at 11:00 a.m. with the first post at 1:00 p.m.  The cost is $40/person, which includes parking, entrance fee,  program, and lunch at the Frontrunner Cafe.  If you have any questions, contact Sam Falzone.
  4. Bob Harbicht announced that the club’s  2nd annual Field of Honor will be held in May,  the week of Memorial Day,   He said that  the number of sponsors has increased, but he is still looking for additional sponsors at various levels, from silver to platinum.  Let Bob know of the name of any prospective sponsor so that he or someone on his committee can personally  contact the  prospective sponsor.
  5. The club’s 2017 Monte Carlo Night Fundraiser is set for Saturday, 04/22/2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  at the Arcadia Community Center.   There will be bountiful hors d’oeuvres (no seated dinner).  This is the club’s main fundraiser and needs the support of every member.  The cost is $175/couple or $100/single ticket.
  6.  In celebration of Arbor Day,  the club will meet in the Arboretum at the Peacock Cafe on 04/28/2017.   The club will be dark at the Embassy Suites.
  7.  Member Brent Forsee, principal at Arcadia High School, encouraged all members to support  Measure A in the upcoming election which will  put a parcel tax of $284.00 on each home in Arcadia.   He said that unlike our real property taxes which go to Sacramento with not much coming back to Arcadia for its schools, the parcel tax under Measure A will go directly to the Arcadia schools.
  8. Mike Real announced the Students of the Month for each of December 2016 and January 2017.  The  recipients for December 2016 are as follows:  Peyton Graves – Academics, Holly Lung – Athletics, and Angel Rojas – Performing Arts.  The recipients for January 2017 are as follows:  Sharne Sun – Academics, Campbell Dopke – Athletics, and Michelle Zhao – Performing Arts.   Congratulations to each you!
  9. Ernie Aragon announced that he and Clara now have 16 great-grandchildren with the 17th on the way.   Congratulations to both of you.  This must be some sort of a record.
  10. Past President Eric Barter announced that the club’s 91st Installation Dinner will be held on Friday 06/30/2017 at the San Gabriel Country Club.  We will be dark at the Embassy Suites on that date.
