Tuesday, September 16th, a small group of Arcadia Rotarians — Matt Weaver, Brian Hall, Mike Danielson, David Muse, and a friend of ours, Denise Cervenka — had the privilege of spending some time volunteering at Union Rescue Mission (https://urm.org), right in the heart of Skid Row.
If you’ve never heard of URM, it’s truly an incredible place. Their mission is all about restoration, healing, and hope, with a strong focus on helping families rebuild their lives. The facility is impressive — four stories packed with housing, meals, classrooms, medical care, and more. Every square foot is used to its full potential, and as you can imagine, the need for ongoing maintenance is constant.
Repainting a women’s bathroom may not sound glamorous, but it was meaningful — a small way to contribute to a much bigger effort. “Since retiring, I have been spending more time helping out at URM, and I can honestly say I’ve been inspired by the positive energy and deep compassion of the staff. They treat everyone — guests, volunteers, and each other — with incredible respect and kindness.” says Matt Weaver
We’d love to see our club continue to support this vital work and am hoping we can plan some weekend projects together moving forward.
Interested in joining a future project? Have ideas for how we can support URM?
Please feel free to reach out — we’d love to hear from you!
