On August 20th 2011 The Rotary Club of Arcadia hosted the first Multi club Rotary Picnic at Lake Arrowhead’s Burnt Mill Beach club. The location was just left of the Lodge and resort at Lake Arrowhead which give you a quick impression of how beautiful the surrounding was! Spearheading the Picnic was the Arcadia Rotary’s club President Elect; Eric Barter. His idea was to get several Rotary clubs to get together outside their element and enjoy true Rotarian sprit much like he had experienced as a boy with his Father being a Rotarian President the year he was born. Eric said that several clubs on the Monterey Peninsula would gather in Carmel Valleys water plant property and have a great time, great food, fun and games!

So Eric invited the Pasadena club, the Sierra Madre Rotary club, the Monrovia Rotary club and the San Marino Rotary club as well as the Lake Arrowhead Sunrise and noon time club! Unfortunately only the Arcadia and Lake Arrowhead Rotary clubs took part!

With over fifty Rotarians and their families signed up, Eric and “the Arcadia Rotary BBQ Crew” made up of Eric, Bob Harbicht, Rosie Maries, Mary Salcedo, Jim Rider and Mike Ojeda took on the task to make it happen! In the days before the event, the fresh sweet corn was shucked and seasoned and foil wrapped so that it would stay warm long after the BBQ took it on! The Tri Tip got its special seasoning, the garlic bread got its special spread and the salads were prepared! Coolers lined the walls of the club with all kinds of beverages and the crew was ready!

The Burnt Mill Beach Club only has access to ALA members and all the Rotarians really enjoyed having this truly beautiful spot all to them selves!

As the Rotarians and their families arrived, the spread hit the serving tables! The families filled their plates, some several times and the first multi club picnic took hold!

Several Rotarians were attending the District 5300 training at Etiwanda Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga but as it adjourned at 12:00 and it was just a short drive to Lake Arrowhead for a great lunch! District 5300 District Governor Doug Fowler and his lovely wife Deborah joined the party about the same time as those attending the same seminar training.

We think that Doug and Deborah truly enjoyed this let your hair down Shin-dig! On behalf the Rotary Club of Arcadia Eric had intended to present the District Governor a check for $150 for the great cause of the wheelchair foundation but it was left in the flatland and I guess the checks in the mail is really true here! You can bet the four way test on that!

Those in attendance were Arcadia Rotarians Tom Crosby and his wife Virgina, John Davis and Sandy Davis and their son, Bob and Patsy Harbicht, Steve Pelletier, Jim and Sandy Rider, Mike and Ana Ojeda and their daughter Kennedy, new member Jon Richards and his wife, Gerard and Christa Tamperong and their two boys and their family, Eric and Janice Barter, Mary Salcedo and Rosie Mares, Past President Matt Weaver and Denise Weaver plus Lake Arrowhead noontime members Keith and Yolanda Douglas, Harry and Gretchen Sherman, and Bob and Diane Gladwell plus their sunrise club’s Karyn Westervelt!

When its gets out how great a time those in attendance had we are sure this event will grow and grow each year!
