The Four Way Speech Contest with our International theme “Be a Gift to the World” treated us to the top speakers representing our Club and Monrovia Rotary.  Ken Chan presided.

Before the speeches began presentations were made for the three finalists  (Arcadia High students) in the George Hensel Ethics Essay contest at our club level.  Judges for the submissions were Mimi Hennessy, Glen Oyoung and Matt Weaver.

3rd place: Claire Sung
2nd place: Camilla Leonard
1st place: Charles Xu, an 11th grader at Arcadia High. Charles was asked to read his essay.

Each finalist received a plaque, a check and Charles Xu moves on to the Group level contest.  At the District level the grand finalist will receive a $3000 prize.

The presentation was followed by two vibrant speeches with a representative from our club and and Monrovia.  Both speakers were impressive: Amaris Murphy-Richards, a senior at Monrovia High faced off against  Stephanie Shen a sophomore at Arcadia High.

Ken said “there was a tie. We wanted to send them both to the next level.  But we can only send one.”  After four tie breaker votes the judges awarded the win to Stephanie Shen.
