Front Sight Ministry gave us a sobering yet inspiring look at the tremendous need our Veteran’s face when assimilating back home. This Ministry offers a resource center, military-only chapel service, Veteran/Family support groups, spiritual guidance, recreational activities and a fitness program that is reaching Veteran’s in a very unique way.
The statistics are staggering: Since 2001 we have lost close to 7,000 service members to conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In that same time period, we have lost more than 100,000 veterans to suicide. Rotarians noted how much money our government spends on training our men and women to be fighters and yet we spend very little time and money helping them adjust back to civilian life.
The Front Sight Ministry offers the unique Front Sight Fitness program which is designed to help Veteran’s turn their injuries into assets and is suitable for all levels of fitness and ability. It helps build the comradery, trust and healing these Veteran’s need to help with the depression and suicidal thoughts. These are the “invisible wounds” they suffer that cause the most destruction to themselves and their families.
The Front Sight Ministry is located at 1009 Brooks Street, Unit C, Ontario, CA. There are many ways we can help them in their mission: monetary donations, referring veteran’s to their program, donate goods to their thrift store and even visit their site to check out in person what they are doing to help these men and women in need. Their website is www.frontsightministry.org.
