Field of Valor

Linda Logan from the Covina Rotary Club introduced us to their premier project, which is displayed each year as a field of 2001 flags on the field at Sierra Vista Middle School. It has become known as the “Field Of Valor” and is attended by scores of locals and others traveling from far off places. This event is a weeklong event that ties in with Veterans Day. This year it will take place from November 7th to the 15th and will raise funds for vets and active duty military in need of everything from housing, rent assistance, transportation, food, clothing, VA appointments and care, etc. In its first year of 2012, the project raised $35,000.

The field is staked one week prior to the flags placement and must be measured for exact distance and uniformity. Volunteers from four local Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Club, Soroptomist Club and Women’s Club come to organize, assemble, clean and place flags on poles at the field. The public is invited to purchase flags for $35 each in the name of their honored veteran. Thruought the week there are various concerts, speakers, student tours and military fly-overs which make the week an exciting tribute to veterans. All kids in attendance receive a pocket book complete with a copy of the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

This is seen by thousands of locals traveling by the school and covered by media and now known all over the southland. A very worthwhile project, which does great things for Veterans in need. Thank you Linda Logan and the Covina Rotary Club.
