The club’s last board meeting for the club year will be on Wednesday, 06/21/2017 at the office of Francine Chiu, 1045 W. Huntington Drive, Ste. 200, Arcadia (corner of Huntington Drive and Sunset). It will be a joint meeting of the old board and the new board.
Rotary Partners has a social for the start of the new Rotary Year. Come to the Arboretum Saturday 07/08/2017 to hear Grammy award winner Le Ann Rimes. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $10/person for sitting on the lawn. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to FRANK PERINI who will celebrate his 93rd birthday on 05/21/2017. The club sang Happy Birthday to him early. It was great that Frank’s extended family could be present to celebrate his big day! Also congratulations to FRANK for his retirement after 63 years at FRANK’s HAIR PLUS barbershop and for 58 years of perfect attendance as a member at Arcadia Rotary Club.

The club’s Field of Honor will be held at Arcadia County Park from 05/20/2017 through 05/30/2017, with the opening ceremony to be held on Sunday 05/21/2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Arcadia County Park. 1,000 flags will be flown. BOB HARBICHT announced that we have $50,000 in sponsorships, and now we need to sell more flags at $50 each. MIKE REAL is in charge of setting up the Field of Honor on Saturday 05/20/2017 and he needs volunteers to set up the flags from 8:00 a.m. to about 1:00 p.m. on that day. Also volunteers are needed to man the club’s booth at the Field of Honor each day with various shifts from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and also to put diesel oil in the generators for the lights every other day. In celebration of Arbor Day, the club meeting on Friday 04/28/2017 will be held at the Peacock Cafe at the Arboretum. The club will be dark at Embassy Suites.
Bob Harbicht brought the club up to date on the club’s annual Field of Honor to be held the week of 05/20/2017 through 05/30/2017 at Arcadia County Park. He said that we have over $45,000 in sponsors. The Pasadena Star News will be the official Media Sponsor. Bob said that from the proceeds received from the Field of Honor $10,000 is to be set aside each year for 3 years until
$30,000 is collected which will be used to build a Veteran’s Memorial Monument at Arcadia County Park. The club set aside $10,000 from the proceeds last year and planned on setting $10,000 this year. However, an anonymous donor recently donated $20,000 for the project so we now have the $30,000 needed to start the project. The $10,000 that was to be set aside this year for the project can now be used for the club’s charities.
Bob said that volunteers are needed for the Field of Honor. Westfield Mall is donating the use of a Kiosk at the mall this weekend 04/15 and 04/16 to advertise the Field of Honor with the continuous running of a video of the Field of Honor . Volunteers are needed to man the Kiosk over the weekend. A sign up sheet was taken at the meeting and there will also be a sign up sheet on-line. Contact Teri Muse for more information.
Bob also said that each member should pass out the pamphlet on the Field of Honor to family and friends seeking sponsors and selling flags (cost of $50/flag). You can go on-line to get a blurb on the Field of Honor which you can paste an email to all of your family and friends.

Matt Weaver just returned from Thailand and reported on his newest water project. He said it was life changing for the village he visited.
Matt also reported that next Wednesday 03/15/2017 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the club’s RYLA committee will be interviewing students from the Junior Class at Arcadia High School to attend this year’s RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) weekend. President Rosie announced that on Saturday 03/18/2017 members of the club will be going to Tijuana, Mexico to deliver wheelchairs to needy persons and also to visit various orphanages in the area for future Rotary Amigo projects.
Sam Falzone announced that 66 club members have signed up for the Arcadia Rotary Day at the Races set for Friday 03/24/2017, but he would like to have a total of 75. The cost is $40/person, which includes parking, entrance fee, racing program, and lunch at the Frontrunner restaurant. The gates at the racetrack open at 11:00 a.m. with the first post at 1:00 p.m. As always, George Fasching will be handicapping the races. The club will be dark at the Embassy Suites.

Let Bob know if you know of any potential sponsors from $500 to $5,000 and his committee will contact them. Over 1,000 flags will be displayed at a cost of $50/flag., and he urged all members to contact friends and family members to buy a flag to honor a friend or family member. In addition to Casino night the Field of Honor is the club’s major fundraiser
John Wilson announced the following club socials: (1) on Saturday 03/25/2017 we will ride the Metro and stop at various pubs, and (2) on 04/03/2017 there will be a party at Matt Weaver’s house to watch the finals of the NCAA.
Membership Director Francine Chiu reminded us that the program for Friday 04/07/2017 will be someone from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and she asked all club members to bring prospective new members that day.

Bob Harbicht announced that the club’s 2nd annual Field of Honor will be held in May, the week of Memorial Day, He said that the number of sponsors has increased, but he is still looking for additional sponsors at various levels, from silver to platinum. Let Bob know of the name of any prospective sponsor so that he or someone on his committee can personally contact the prospective sponsor.
The club’s 2017 Monte Carlo Night Fundraiser is set for Saturday, 04/22/2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Arcadia Community Center. There will be bountiful hors d’oeuvres (no seated dinner). This is the club’s main fundraiser and needs the support of every member. The cost is $175/couple or $100/single ticket.
In celebration of Arbor Day, the club will meet in the Arboretum at the Peacock Cafe on 04/28/2017. The club will be dark at the Embassy Suites.
Member Brent Forsee, principal at Arcadia High School, encouraged all members to support Measure A in the upcoming election which will put a parcel tax of $284.00 on each home in Arcadia. He said that unlike our real property taxes which go to Sacramento with not much coming back to Arcadia for its schools, the parcel tax under Measure A will go directly to the Arcadia schools.
Mike Real announced the Students of the Month for each of December 2016 and January 2017. The recipients for December 2016 are as follows: Peyton Graves – Academics, Holly Lung – Athletics, and Angel Rojas – Performing Arts. Ernie Aragon announced that he and Clara now have 16 great-grandchildren with the 17th on the way. Congratulations to both of you. This must be some sort of a record.
