Announcements – 09/08/2017 by Pat Barnes

  1.  John Murphy announced that George Fasching has been in the hospital and hopes to come home today.  He could use some cheering up.
  2. Mike Hoey reported that Jeff Johnson’s brother, who worked for the government in Brussels, died suddenly from an aortic aneurysm. He was only 53 years of age. Prayers and thought are appreciated.
  3. Remember that the club will start meeting at the Monrovia Doubletree Hotel on 09/29/2017 while the meeting rooms at the Embassy Suite are being renovated.
  4. The 28th annual District 5300 Peace Conference will be held at the Huntington Library on Saturday 10/07/2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.   The cost is $25 for per-registration or $35 at the door.  It includes a continental breakfast.
  5. Monrovia Rotary Club will be hosting an “Aloha Luau & Casino” party on Saturday 09/23/2017.  The cost is $50/ticket.
  6. There will be an Arcadia Rotary mixer on Wednesday 09/13/2017 from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at Mt. Lowe Brewing Company, 150 E. St. Joseph Street, Arcadia, CA.
  7.  Aaron Rose said to mark on our calendar the Chinese Moon Festival on 11/30/2017.  The cost is $10/person or $5 for seniors.  Contact Aaron for further information.
  8.  Arcadia Rotary Club’s annual Monday Night Football will be held on 10/23/2017 at Matt Weaver’s house.  It will be the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Washington Redskins.  This is always a great event.
  9.  The Arcadia Partner’s annual Christmas party will be held on Friday 12/01/2017 at Matt Weaver’s house.
  10.  The District Governor’s visit will be on 10/06/2017.   There will be a combined dinner for members of Arcadia, Monrovia, Sierra Madre and Duarte Rotary Clubs at 5:30 P.M. at the Duarte Community Center.
  11. Congratulations to Larry Callaham for getting his Blue Badge.
  12. Dirk Hudson announced that the 5-K run for Juvenile Diabetes will be at the Rose Bowl on 10/29/2017.

  1.  SAVE THE DATE:  Friday 10/27/2017 for Arcadia Rotary Club’s 90th Anniversary Celebration.
  2. During  the remodeling of the Embassy Suites, Arcadia Rotary Club is moving its meeting location to  the Monrovia Double Tree Hotel starting with  the meeting on 09/29/2017,,
  3.  Remember that Arcadia Rotary Club will be DARK next Friday 09/01/2017 for the Labor Day weekend.

  5.  Rosie Mares announced that the Red Badgers will hold their 1st meeting  at 5:30 P.M. on Monday 08/28/2017 at Villa Catrina Mexican Restaurant, 251 n. Santa Anita Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91006.
  6.  The club meeting on 10/06/2017 will be a combined meeting of the Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Monrovia and Duarte Rotary Clubs.
  7.  Congratulations to Bob Harbicht who was presented with his Paul Harris Fellow + 10 pin from Gil Stromsoe.
  8. Gil Stromsoe also announced that District 5300’s Rotary Dream Team will travel to India for Polio Plus.   Over the years Arcadia Rotary club has contributed over $150,000 for Polio Plus which immunized over 1 million children against polio.
  9. Chamber President Karen MacNair announced that tickets are now on sale for the annual Taste of Arcadia to be held on 09/26/2017. The cost is  $50/ticket ($40/ticket for club members).  See Karen for tickets.

Announcements for 07/14/17 by Pat Barnes

  1.  Welcome to our new President Tony Parrille at his first official  club meeting.  We look forward to a great Rotary year with Tony at the helm.
  2.   Thank you to Rotary Partners under the leadership of Jean Parrille for a great social for all club members and guests on Saturday 07/08/17 at the Arboretum where we picniced on the lawn  and listened to the concert by country singer Le Ann Rimes.  Everyone had a great time, especially the peacocks who also entertained us.
  3. We are saddened at the sudden death after surgery of Rotary International’s President Elect Sam Owori who was a former District Governor and a member of the Rotary Club of Kampala, Uganda.  His year would have begun on 07/01/18.
  4. President Tony was installed at the club’s installation dinner on 06/30/17 by the new District Governor Raghada Khoury who is a member of the Rotary Club of Apple Valley where she was club President.  Raghada was born in Amman, Jordan, raised in Yonkers, NY and has called California home since 1977.  She lived in Azusa before moving to Apple Valley in 1987.  In 2001 she graduated from the University of Redlands earning a Masters of Arts in Management.  She has been in real estate investment for the past 13 years.  She has served as the President of the Domestic Violence Shelter for Women and Children in Victor Valley for over 5 years and served on many District committees before becoming District Governor for 2017-2018.
  5.  A big “thank you” to  Past President  Eric Barter for the great job he did in chairing the club’s Installation Dinner at the San Gabriel Country Club on 06/30/17. The venue was perfect as was the dinner and hopefully we can have  more installations there in the years to come.

Announcements – 06/16/2017 by PAT BARNES

  1. The club’s last board meeting for the club year will be on Wednesday, 06/21/2017 at the office of Francine Chiu, 1045 W. Huntington Drive, Ste. 200, Arcadia (corner of Huntington Drive and Sunset).  It will be a joint meeting of the old board and the new board.
  2.  Rotary Partners has a social for the start of the new Rotary Year.  Come to the Arboretum Saturday 07/08/2017 to hear Grammy award winner Le Ann Rimes.  Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m.  The cost is $10/person for sitting on the lawn.  Bring your blanket, chairs, food and beverage, and plan on having a great time with other Rotarians and friends.
  3.  The demotion of current President Rosie Mares will be at the club meeting on Friday 06/23/17.
  4. The Installation Banquet for incoming President  Tony Parrille  will be held on Friday 06/30/2017 at San Gabriel Country Club.  We will be dark at the Embassy Suites on that date.
  5. SAVE THE DATE:  Friday 10/27/2017 for the club’s 90th anniversary celebration.

Announcements – 05/12/2017 by Pat Barnes

  1.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY to FRANK PERINI who will celebrate his 93rd birthday on 05/21/2017.  The club sang Happy Birthday to him early.  It was great that Frank’s extended family could be present to celebrate his big day!  Also congratulations to FRANK for his retirement after 63 years at FRANK’s HAIR PLUS barbershop and for 58 years of perfect attendance as a member at Arcadia Rotary Club.
  2.  Everybody is invited to celebrate with FRANK PERINI as he is honored by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce for 63 years of serving the Arcadia community.  It will take place on Tuesday, 05/16/2017 at 7:00 P.M. at the Arcadia City Council Chambers (next to city hall), 240 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA 91006.
  3. Congratulations to GEORGE FASCHING and to his team of club members for a job well done at  the 30th annual Arcadia Rotary Club Senior Citizen luncheon held on 05/09/17 at the Arcadia Community Center.
  4. The District Conference will be held the  weekend of 05/19/2017 in Palm Springs.
  5. The club’s Field of Honor will  be held at Arcadia County Park from 05/20/2017 through 05/30/2017, with the opening ceremony to be held on Sunday 05/21/2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Arcadia County Park.   1,000 flags will be flown.  BOB HARBICHT announced that we have $50,000 in sponsorships,  and now we need to sell more flags at $50 each.  MIKE REAL is in charge of setting up the Field of Honor on Saturday 05/20/2017 and he needs volunteers to set up the flags from 8:00 a.m. to about 1:00 p.m. on that day.  Also volunteers are needed to man the  club’s booth at the Field of Honor each day with various shifts  from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and also to put diesel oil in the generators for the lights every other day.  Signup sheets were passed around at the meeting.  Contact either BOB HARBICHT or MIKE REAL for further information.
  6.  President ROSIE announced that the  club’s last Board meeting  for the club year will be on 06/21/2017 and will be a joint meeting of the old board and the new board.
  7.  JAIME HOLMES , a math teacher at First Avenue Middle School, was announced as the Teacher of the Month.  Congratulations!
  8. The following were announced as the Students of the Month:          Academics – MONICA FAHMY; , Athletics – CHARLES DENG;  and Performing Arts – LYDIA JENSEN.  Congratulations!
  9.  A reminder to put on your calendar that the club’s Installation Dinner will be held on Friday 06/30/2017 at the San Gabriel Country Club.  We will be dark at the Embassy Suites on that date.

Announcements for Meeting 04/14/2017 by Pat Barnes

  1. The  Club’s Board meeting will be held on Wednesday 04/19/2017.
  2.  The District Assembly will be held on Saturday morning 04/22/2017 at Sitting Bull Academy in Apple Valley.  All Board members should attend.  See President Rosie for more information.
  3.  The club’s annual Casino night will be held on Saturday evening 04/22/2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Arcadia Community Center.  This is one of the club’s main fundraisers and it should be a fun evening.
  4.  In celebration of Arbor Day, the club meeting on Friday 04/28/2017 will be held at the Peacock Cafe at the Arboretum.  The club will be dark at Embassy Suites.
  5. Bob Harbicht brought the club up to date on the club’s annual Field of Honor to be held the week of 05/20/2017 through 05/30/2017 at Arcadia County Park.  He said that we have over $45,000 in sponsors.  The Pasadena Star News will be the official Media Sponsor.  Bob said that from the proceeds received from the Field of Honor $10,000 is to be set aside each year for 3 years until
    $30,000 is collected which will be used to build a Veteran’s Memorial Monument at Arcadia County Park.  The club set aside $10,000 from the proceeds last year and planned on setting $10,000 this year.  However, an anonymous donor recently donated $20,000 for the project so we now have the $30,000 needed to start the project.  The $10,000 that was to be set aside this year for the project can now be used for the club’s charities.
  6. Bob said that volunteers are needed for the Field of Honor.  Westfield Mall is donating the use of a Kiosk at the mall this weekend 04/15 and 04/16 to advertise the Field of Honor with the continuous running of a video of the Field of Honor .  Volunteers are needed to man the Kiosk over the weekend.  A sign up sheet was taken at the meeting and there will also be a sign up sheet on-line.  Contact Teri Muse for more information.
  7. Bob also said that each member should pass out the pamphlet on the Field of Honor to family and friends seeking sponsors and selling flags (cost of $50/flag).  You can go on-line to get a blurb on the Field of Honor which you can paste an email to all of your family and friends.
  8.  Sam Falzone announced that volunteers are needed to assemble the flags on Saturday 04/29 at Pat Dolphin’s warehouse.  For further information contact Sam Falzone.
  9. Past President Eric Barter announced that the club’s installation dinner will be held on Friday 06/30 at the San Gabriel Country Club.  We will be dark at the Embassy Suites on that date.
  10.  The following were awarded as the Students of the Month:  Academics – Ruffina Silva Garcia; Athletics – Jacob Kampen; and Performing Arts – Anastasia Barkow.  Congratulations to each of you.
  11. The club’s annual Honoring Seniors luncheon will be held on Tuesday 05/09.  Volunteers are needed.  Contact George Fasching.
  12. The District Conference will be held the weekend of 05/19 – 05/20 in Palm Springs.
