1. Ernie Jensen, getting around with the aid of crutches, told us of the unfortunate accident he incurred while visiting a Trampoline Park over the holidays. He described in detail a torn ACL, MCL, and a broken knee. The injuries won’t keep him down as he has travel plans, and he has no driving restrictions although Gail won’t let him get behind the wheel.

2. Tom Crosby announced the upcoming Rotary Amigos project. The club will be building a deck to go over a water well at the same orphanage where we worked last year. Tom says there is nothing to worry about as far as safety, since we go directly to the orphanage from the border, and then to the hotel where we will be staying Sat. night. The dates are Jan. 24 and 25, the weekend between the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. If you haven’t signed up yet, please contact Tom or Dick Martinez.

3. Mike Real told us that in appreciation for the donation from the Arcadia Rotary Foundation to the high school, the athletic department is giving the club one complimentary pass for a foresome at their golf tournament. It will be held on Friday, Jan. 23 with a 7:30 shotgun start, at San Dimas Golf Club. Pres. Mike plans to play, so they need three more players. Please contact Mike Real if you can play.

4. Jim Helms had just seen the movie “Unbroken” and encouraged us, particularly those who were born after the war, to see it. The story describes the inhumane treatment of Louie Zamperini while in a Prisoner of War camp in Japan. Jim, who was in charge of a P.O.W. camp in Hawaii that had 1,000 prisoners, said that they were all treated in a very civil and humane manner, in stark contrast with the camp in Japan. The movie is currently playing at the Krikorian theater in Monrovia, and probably at theaters in Arcadia.
